The interventions of the National RIS3 strategies – Programmes of Czech ministries

The programs are implemented in the form of public tenders.

TREND (2020 - 2027)

The guarantor of the program is the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT), the provider of support and the implementer is the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TACR).

The main goal of the program is to increase the international competitiveness of companies especially by expanding their markets abroad, penetrating new markets or moving higher in global value chains. It envisages an increase in the number of companies carrying out their own research and development activities and strengthening of the orientation of research organizations towards internationally competitive applied research with benefits for industry and society. Research projects aimed at increasing the use of modern production methods, its planning, management and distribution of products according to the principles of the Industry 4.0 initiative in key application sectors identified by strategic documents and initiatives of the Czech Republic and the European Union, especially by the National RIS3 strategy, are supported.

The total of CZK 9.19 billion has been allocated from the state budget of the Czech Republic for interventions in favour of the RIS3 objectives.

The Country for the Future (2020 -2027)

The support provider is the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT).

The program is aimed at supporting the emergence of innovative companies, the development of digital services and the implementation of innovation in practice. The program is divided into three subprograms:

  • “Start-ups” (system project “Technological incubation of start-ups”)
  • “Digital leaders” (supporting the development of infrastructure for digital development and digital innovation services)
  • “Innovation into practice” (support for the introduction of product and process innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises)

The total of CZK 5.45 billion has been allocated from the state budget of the Czech Republic for interventions in favour of RIS3 objectives.

Security research program of the Czech Republic in 2015 - 2022

The support provider is the Ministry of the Interior (MoI).

The program is focused on supporting research and development activities in the field of security of the state and its citizens in accordance with the strategy of prevention, minimization and suppression of security threats set by the Security Strategy of the Czech Republic, National priorities of oriented research, experimental development and innovation and priorities of the interministerial concept of the security research and development of the Czech Republic by 2015. The aim is to achieve such a knowledge, technological and technical level that will enable the Czech Republic to acquire, assume, maintain and develop specific knowledge necessary to ensure the security of the state and its citizens.

The total of CZK 0.30 billion has been allocated from the state budget of the Czech Republic for interventions in favour of the RIS3 objectives.

Program to support medical applied research and development for the period 2015 - 2022

The support provider is the Ministry of Health (MoH).

The aim of the program is to contribute to the improvement of the health of the Czech population in the medium and long term and to continue in ensuring the current needs in health care in the Czech Republic. In order to achieve new knowledge, projects, which will bring improved clinical procedures in diagnosis, treatment and prevention in the treatment of the most common, but also rare or completely new diseases, are being supported. The Program also aims to contribute to increase the level of the medical research in the Czech Republic so as it is comparable to the developed countries of the European Union.

The total of CZK 0.30 billion has been allocated from the state budget of the Czech Republic for interventions in favour of the RIS3 objectives.

Applied research program of the Ministry of Agriculture for the period 2017 - 2025 EARTH

The managing authority is the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).

The program is aimed at supporting applied research projects in agriculture, food, water management and forestry, with expected results of high innovation potential leading to the strengthening the stability, volume and quality of production that applicable in new products, technologies and production processes. The development of existing fields and technologies as well as the emergence of new knowledge, methods and procedures, which will enable the strengthening of the competitiveness of the Czech agricultural sector and the development and use of renewable resources for the society, are supported. The Program also aims to increase the efficiency of the use of public funds invested in research in the agricultural sector and to increase the social value of research activities.

The total of CZK 1.40 billion has been allocated from the state budget of the Czech Republic for interventions in favour of the RIS3 objectives.

Program to support the applied research, experimental development and innovation in the field of transport - TRANSPORT 2020+ (2020 - 2026)

The guarantor of the program is the Ministry of Transport (MT). The provider of support and the implementer of the program is the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TACR).

The program is aimed at supporting the applied research and experimental development projects, the results of which have a high potential for further application in new approaches, technological processes and services leading to the strengthening of social and economic benefits of the transport. A special emphasis is placed on strengthening the cooperation between the research, academic and private sectors and creating suitable conditions for the commercialization of research results and their use for the needs of the society.

The total of CZK 1.95 billion has been allocated from the state budget of the Czech Republic for interventions in favour of the RIS3 objectives.

Program for the Support of Applied Research, Experimental Development and Innovation in the Field of the Environment - Environment for Life (2020 - 2026)

The guarantor is the Ministry of the Environment (MoE). The provider of support and the implementer of the program is the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TAČR).

The program aims to support the projects in the public interest, new practices, environmental technologies and eco-innovation with a high potential for rapid application in practice to support more time- and knowledge-intensive solutions based on a longer-term monitoring of social, natural and climate change.

The total of CZK 3.58 billion has been allocated from the state budget of the Czech Republic for interventions in favour of the RIS3 objectives.

Security Research Program of the Czech Republic 2021 - 2026: development, testing and evaluation of new security technologies (SECTECH)

The provider of public support is the Ministry of the Interior (MoI).

The mission of the SECTECH Program is to support the development, testing and evaluation activities in the field of security of the state and its citizens in accordance with the characteristic needs of the security system, as defined by valid strategic and conceptual materials of the security policy, summarized by the Interministerial concept of support for the security research in the Czech Republic in 2017–2023. At the same time, the program is a specific tool for fulfilling the National Policy for Research, Development and Innovation.

The main goal of the SECTECH Program is to support the achievement of technological and technical level by mobilizing the potential of the corporate sector, especially start-ups and SMEs to participate in the development and transfer of new security technologies, which will enable individual components of the Czech security system to acquire, assume, maintain and develop specific capabilities to ensure the security of the state and its citizens.

The total of CZK 0.50 billion has been allocated from the state budget of the Czech Republic for interventions in favour of the RIS3 objectives.
